I was making a day of it in Hockessin and decided to have lunch at the back burner. On my previous trips I had had arctic char but all my friends said I must have the mushroom soup and the burger. They were absolutely right. The pumpkin mushroom soup is excellent and I'm not a big fan of pumpkin. The burger was done to perfection. The staff work as a team and are friendly and helpful. They seem to enjoy their work. I will certainly make the back burner my go to place in Hockessin for lunch.
We're new to Hockessin and we love The Back Burner...Nearly everything is prepared to order. Some may find the menu unexciting, but we value the consistent high quality and attention to detail in preparation and presentation instead of superficial novelty. Seafood and meat is always prepared perfectly. I enjoy the simplicity of the Iceberg Wedge with hand made dressing and fresh bacon chips!...
A Hockessin classic. The menu is relatively "safe", nothing too adventurous. But the steaks, seafood, and other dishes are always excellent, and the portions and prices are very good. Service is excellent. Tuesdays are burger night, with reduced prices on burgers. For a relaxed atmosphere, sit at the bar, chat with the bartenders or other customers. Or, to relax even more, grab a table in the back room where there is a fireplace and sofas.
Classic, delicious, upscale, timeless. The pumpkin mushroom soup is absolutely killer, filled with fresh and unique flavor. Specials are always on point and the red meats are paired nicely with awesome red wine offerings. Filet mignon here is always a killer dished, cooked to perfection. Service is excellent! Come during lunch without a reservation for no wait, great service, and an upscale feel. Highly recommended!
I had an amazing meal here! The plate presentation on both my side salad and filet mignon were incredible but what really made it was that it tasted fabulous, too. The only thing I didn't *love* was the crispy breadstick-esque thing. My preference would have been to have fresh bread rather than something crunchy, but that's a personal preference. 10/10 will be back when I'm in the area and absolutely would recommend you go...
